My Personal Story Skin Care Woes and Battle with Dull Skin:
People wonder why I talk about skin care so much, my skin was beyond dull. I had a few things going on; dull, oily in some areas, acne prone and sensitive. I cleaned my face so I thought there was nothing else that could be done. I’d cover the blemishes with makeup.
Then I came to a very important realization:
Yes, I absolutely love makeup but the main purpose (for us everyday girls) is not to hide 🙈who we are — it’s to enhance certain features.👀👃💄
About five years ago, I would have never applied ANY makeup product without applying foundation. If I wore lipstick, I’d apply foundation. Makeup was perfect so I didn’t want to mess it up even more by showing my flaws!
At that time, my foundation would be bumpy, could barely see the coverage and wouldn’t last. Crazy but it was a fairly expensive makeup brand that I was using then. Yet, you couldn’t even tell I was wearing foundation. Just look at the photo.
My skin looked dull🌚:
I had two rough gray patches on both sides of my face from an allergic reaction to my cell phone. 🤦🏽♀️
Multiple acne scars in the center of my cheeks.
Pimples in the center of my forehead.
I was completely self conscious.
It didn’t help when I went to visit my grandmother and she called my skin dirty. Honest, southern folks. Glad that’s over.
What changed:
I decided to really focus on my skin back in 2016.
Made the decision to purchase a scrub that you can use daily.
Almost instantly, people began to tell me how bright my skin looked.
Looking back, I can’t believe I would have ever done this — being so comfortable that I sit here comfortably without any foundation.
This look: brows, mascara, lipstick and a little highlight on the nose.
Foundation free😊
Now: Loving the skin I’m in.

Before: Yes, I’m wearing foundation

After: I skipped foundation😱
My current skincare regimen:
Quite honestly, I’m a minimalist. The most important step to my skin was to exfoliate. Exfoliating does the process of removing dead skin cells.
Why is exfoliating important:
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells which not only helps to clear up your complexion but it also makes it easier for the skin to absorb those good vitamins and ingredients in your moisturizer. That was the biggest difference
With the scrub, it’s like a microexfoliant so it’s gentle enough for every day use and effective.
What steps do I follow:
3) Day Cream (Balance moisturizer for oily/combo skin)
Substitute:
On most days now, I skip steps 1-2 and use the Anew Clean Micellar Cleansing Water. It cleansing but also has toning abilities so I go straight to step three. It’s actually what I use when leaving the gym to prevent new breakouts.
I exfoliate once a week (during colder temperatures) and twice during the summer with the Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub.
I either substitute the refining scrub for the pore penetrating invigorating scrub or micellar water. I ALWAYS moisturize. The Balance day/night cream helps to balance your pH levels which then, controls excessive oil or dryness.
Since focusing on my skin, my makeup looks flawless!
