Avon Little Black Dress Review

Avon Little Black Dress

First, let me start off by saying, I’ve had Avon’s Little Black Dress for at least two months now. For die-hard Avon fans, many are familiar with this fragrance; however, Avon discontinued it a few years ago, decided to slightly modify the formula and re-introduced it around Mother’s Day in Campaign 9 2016. I never had the chance to try the original Little Black Dress so I’ll only give my review on the 2016 version of Little Black Dress.

As Avon describes it, it’s oriental floral with the following description:

A modern classic of sparkling Italian lemon oil and elegant jasmine essence embellished with luxurious sandalwood. The finishing touch that’s perfect for every occasion.

I know I’m not a professional but I can definitely get the hint of Italian blend and jasmine 🙂

First Impression:

As stated before, I purchased the fragrance about two months ago. Occasionally, I’d only wear it while making deliveries to customers or while showcasing it to potential customers; however, to be completely honest, I probably only wore it a handful of times. Disclaimer: I have lots of fragrances so I rotate frequently. BUT even with that disclaimer, I wasn’t in love with the fragrance. It didn’t stink and I apologize for the lack of better words but it was just OK to me. It was nice but it didn’t seem like an absolute must-have. With that being said, I’m a fruity type of gal stuck in her ways. Like the little resistant bug I tend to be, I put it up in the storage never to see the light of day again unless I ran out of other fragrances.

Second Impression:

Being that it’s officially summer, I wanted to try something different. I didn’t want the over-the-top fruity fragrance most associate with summer (myself included). Maybe I’m getting older, I don’t know how I could’ve aged so much in two months but I was looking for something different — something that was crisp, clean yet soft and described me — sexy :). Nothing came to mind but “Little Black Dress” so I decided to give it another shot. A true shot if you will. I put it on last Monday and my senses became engulfed by this wonderful aroma of life.

It’s actually perfect for the summer time! I don’t know what I was thinking originally. It’s not too strong, not too soft, yet sexy, sophisticated, classy —chic. It’s a very light fragrance. Even when first applied, it’s not overpowering and once the fragrance dies down, it almost smells like fresh laundry but with an slightly oriental/floral twist. I don’t have to worry about attracting too many mosquitoes due to the fragrance being overly sweet and also don’t have to worry about the whole “is she trying to mask her summer B.O?” I smell CLEAN and classy. It’s as if I’ve stepped out a super luxurious shower/bath and fallen into a bed of softly scented flower petals — jasmine petals. Just today, I applied it at 5 a.m. and it’s still here 7 hours later. I actually can’t stop smelling my wrist.

I’m also not a fan of overly floral scents. To me, they smell like a funeral home or floral shop located conveniently on the side of a funeral home. Little Black Dress is just perfect. There’s no other word to describe it! It’s perfect for the young woman that’s looking to discover and embrace her femininity and sums up the more experienced, confident woman that already knew it was there.

mark. Maui Bliss Collection Just Released

Welcome to Campaign 12, 2016 or should I say Aloha? What??? You’re not in Hawaii. Why are you saying Aloha?

With the new Mark. Maui Bliss Collection, you’d swear you were on some type of island. Just in time for summer, Mark. has really stepped its game up with the introduction of the All is Palm Maxi Dress, matching accessories, fragrance and of course — MAKEUP. I had to try it out. My inner islander wouldn’t let me rest. To appease her, I decided to purchase the Mark. Sunset Glow Face Bronzer, Mark. Hawaii Five Oh! Eyeshadow Compact and Mark. Sea And Be Seen Beach Bag.

I must say I REALLY LOVE MARK. I did a quick swatch of the face bronzer and OMG. The pigmentation is AH-MAZING! The Mark. Hawaii Five Oh! has such beautiful colors. I’ve been wearing my beach bag since I purchased it even though I haven’t been to the beach.

I’m a hoarder and this beach bag gives me the perfect amount of space needed. I’ve been able to keep brochures, all of my personal makeup, wallet and more.

mark. Got the Goods Liquid Foundation vs MAC Pro Longwear Foundation Review

I finally dumped my MAC foundation ($33) for mark.($18)! And OMG I’m so ♥♥♥♥Better product and better price I had the hardest time finding Avon liquid foundation that matched perfectly but got this one right on the first try! I don’t fault Avon whatsoever; I have one of those weird complexions that changes depending on the time of the day. I’ve been told many MAC users find mark. to be an easier transfer. Note: I only tried 3-4 Avon foundations (powder and liquid) before throwing in the towel. A girl’s got work to do!

It’s been said that many people wear foundation all over when they actually do not need it. I may be one of those people. I don’t have many blemishes but I do have scarring on the right side of my cheek and minor discoloration on the left cheek. In all foundations’ defense, just about any foundation can cover the my scarring. With that being said, I look for sheer-medium coverage foundations. I use it all over just for even complexion and better piece of mind; however, some only use foundation in the area(s) that has redness, discoloration, etc. I just want to make sure I’m not blotchy.

For about 10 years, I’ve worn MAC liquid foundation and for the past maybe 5-6 years I’ve worn the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NW43. Since last year, I’ve noticed that my skin accumulates oil in my t-zone area with and without foundation. At times, I had so much oil in my face that you could fry chicken! It would only get worse wearing the foundation. I believe it’s due largely to hormonal changes and also diet (just being honest).

According to MAC, this foundation is designed to be worn for up to 15 hours for a natural, matte finish; therefore, it’s designed to control oil. Even with setting my makeup with a translucent powder and using a setting spray, I still found an excess of oil within 2-3 hours of applying the MAC foundation. The only time my face had a matte finish is when the foundation was first applied. I also suffered from flashback when taking photos with flash. At times, I looked like a ghost! So I began taking photos without a flash in order to preserve my perfect makeup look.

Tired of finding ways around my makeup, I decided to purchase three mark. Girl products: Got the Goods Multi-Benefit Foundation Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 15, On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact and Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette in Coral Glow. All items used in the look below.

mark. Got the Goods is said to have buildable medium coverage while MAC has medium coverage, according to their site. Unlike MAC, Got the Goods Foundation has more benefits than a regular foundation. Some may even call it a BB cream. I like the fact that it has a pump so it’s not as messy as a BB or CC cream. According to Avon and mark., the Got the Goods Liquid Foundation is oil-free, gives skin a dewy finish, contains broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and leaves skin feeling soft with a radiant glow. Therefore, over time, it actually improves the quality of your skin including firming the skin.

At first, I put MAC on the right cheek and mark. on the left. I didn’t notice much of a matte finish with MAC and didn’t notice too much of a dewy finish with mark. It was slightly dewy so it did not look unnatural. My skin looked healthy. The MAC wasn’t very heavy but I noticed the mark. was much more lightweight. Over time, I forgot I had the mark. on. Just like MAC, I applied mark. foundation and used a translucent powder to set along with the makeup setting spray. I must say that I am beyond impressed with the quality of product and the price point is awesome! By switching, I’m saving $15 and have much better results!

I applied mark. foundation around 10:30 a.m. and by 9:55 p.m., the foundation still looked flawless. I did a slight blot about midday but must say I am pleasantly surprised. It was nothing like my former foundation and honestly, I could have got by without blotting. I’ve blotted so much, I do it as a habit. I took the makeup off before 10 p.m. but I’m sure it would’ve lasted all night.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt so confident in my makeup. Usually, I can apply around 7 a.m. or 8 a.m., sometimes even 10 a.m. and it’s worn off by 4 p.m. MAC promises up to 15 hours of wear but I’ve never been able to get half of that. I applied the mark. foundation just as I would the MAC. I’m glad I was able to get over 10 hours of coverage.

Overall: it’s great for normal and dry skin. For oily skin, you may find yourself blotting a few times but I definitely suggesting “setting” it for longer lasting results. The price point is excellent compared to many other big names. The fact that it has a pump makes application easy and not as messy. Because it has moisturizing agents, you can skip the moisturizer step. It’s an all-in-one: skin benefits, moisturizer and coverage. You can build for desired coverage.

I’ve also posted picture with MAC liquid foundation so you can see the oil problem. My skin looks more “dewy” with the MAC matte foundation than with the mark. Got the Goods Liquid Foundation.

mark. On the Dot Smokey Eye Color Compact

After my pleasant experience with the mark. shimmer cubes, I decided to purchase the mark. On the Dot Smoke Eye Color Compact and mark. On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact. Just like the shimmer cubes, I found this product to be heavily pigmented which is a good thing — especially for darker skin tones. I used my finger to pick the product up with no problems. The shadows glided across my hand so smoothly. Mind you, I didn’t have on any lotion so they may have been a little dry 🙂

The product description states that there are nine metallic shades; however, I personally noticed that shades 1 and 3 (from pinky to thumb) did not appear metallic at all. They are darker shades so I assume that’s the reason for the lack of metal appearance. I do feel as though they’ll look great and may be easier to handle when building a very smokey eye.

I also find the price point to be acceptable. For just $16, you have 9 eye shadows conveniently placed in a compact with a small mirror and applicator. It’s small so you can easily throw it in your purse without it taking up much space, yet still able to complete your desired look. With the compacts, you may just have all of your eye shadows in one place and do not need to travel around with as many products if you’re a girl on the go as I am. I can’t wait until I try it (which may be today :))

Update: mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette Review

Updated:

I’m officially back in the United States and wanted to share with you my no makeup, tanned look. To create this look, I simply used Magix Face Perfector, defined my brows, Big & Multiplied mascara, and the mark. shimmer cubes. That’s it! No Foundation! No blush! No eyeshadow! I wanted to stick with very light makeup as we’d be out in the sun for the most part and in the water, I didn’t want to look like the undead after rising. I really concentrated on my cheeks and lightly dusted over my t-zone area. Pics below!

Original post:

Guess who’s going to Jamaica next week?!?! I am!!! Yep, that’s right! A week in Jamaica. Unfortunately, due to this harsh Chicago winter air, I haven’t had time to get a nice bronzy glow so I’m going to fake it until I make it in Jamaica. I decided to purchase mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette. The palette is available in two shades: Pearly Glow and Coral Glow. I decided to purchase Coral Glow as I wasn’t sure about the pigmentation showing well on my skin tone.

You can combine all shades for a nice all over bronzy glow or dab each shade individually with your finger. To check the consistency and pigmentation, I swatched each of the shimmer cubes with my finger tips. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of effort required to pick up a good amount of product. The formula felt as if a light cream. It wasn’t too heavy and I wouldn’t have any problem wearing throughout the day. I’ve never used any cream-to-powder formulas before so I thought it would dry a little heavy. To my surprise, it didn’t! I can definitely see myself wearing this face palette everyday in the summer. It can be worn alone or used to highlight or used as a bronzer. I tried blending all shades together and applied with a Kabuki brush and it looked great! It almost looked as if I had on a shimmering foundation. My skin looked nice and radiant!

Avon Review and Tutorial: Perfect Eyebrows for less than $8

Check out how you can get the perfect brows for less than $8.

Unfortunately, I suffer from a bad waxing. About 14 years ago, I had my eyebrows waxed at a nail salon. The wax was too hot and as a result, my eyebrows don’t grow in completely. My left eyebrow is the worst! I used to have full eyebrows but now after several bad shops, my eyebrows just won’t cooperate. Depending on how the employee feels, they’re either too short or too thin. One even erased the arch I worked so hard to get! *eye roll* Needless to say, I like filling in my eyebrows. They look much better in photos when they’re darker and they really help to frame my face which brings me to my review today: Avon Glimmerstick Brow Definer and Avon Perfect Eyebrow Kit.

I begin by defining my brows with the Glimmerstick Brow Definer in Dark Brown. I really like how easily it glides and in the case that I mess up, I can easily correct it with my finger. I also love the fact that it is a retractable pencil. I’m usually on the go and have to do my makeup when I get to the location so I don’t have time to sharpen a pencil. Plus, it just gets messy! This has definitely become one of my staple products.

The Brow Definer is a little darker than my eyebrows but I like to use the Perfect Eyebrow Kit to fill in. I chose the Eyebrow Kit in Soft Brown to create a more natural look and to wash anyway any harshness left from the Brow Definer. The kit is very compact, which I love; however, if I had one negative thing to say it’s about the lack of instructions. The instructions are available online but not on the packaging or product itself. Therefore, if you’re not familiar with using this type of product, you’ll probably do what I did — use it incorrectly.

The first step is to apply the setting wax. The setting wax will keep your eyebrows in place. When first using this product, I applied the brow powder and then setting wax so I have brown spots in the setting wax :). I use very light strokes of the brow powder to fill in the shape created by the Brow Definer. It doesn’t take much to give me a more natural look. This is also another staple product. I used to use dark brown eye shadow to fill in my eyebrows; however, that eventually faded or ran and it is a little more difficult to create a shape for struggling brows. So for now, these are my favorite products for long lasting, fuller eyebrows!

Update: Anew Vitale Review

So it’s been officially 2 months since I started using the Anew Vitale cleanser and moisturizers and I must say I’m in love! My skin has never been so clear and more radiant. For the 2-week supply, it actually lasted 2 months! Ha! Now how’s that for longevity?!?! I still have some of the moisturizers left.  This picture shows 2 months of improvement. No enlarged pores. Skin is more even. My skin remains soft and smooth. It doesn’t look dull either. I’m now at the point where it looks as though I’m wearing foundation when I’m not. I love it!
