As we head into 2022, I’m seeing a lot of new years resolutions and what’s the most popular one?
Yep!
You guessed it!
Most people set a goal to lose weight.
Trust me, I get it.
I was there before.
Honestly, there were at least 5 new years in a row where I set the same goal!
Don’t judge me.
Just being honest here.
I’m no longer in the weight loss stage and I’m happily maintaining my 88lb weight loss but just recently, my husband said something that really shed light on my old beliefs.
He said I once told him I would never be skinny.
Honestly, I don’t ever recall saying that but as I dig deeper, I do remember believing that—- hard piece of reality I have to accept and a hard pill to swallow that Ms. You Can Do It didn’t think she could actually do it.
But now it makes perfect sense why I played the lose 5, gain 10lbs game religiously.
Here was the wake up call I needed: you see all these posts about losing weight coming down to diet and exercise.
I’m here to tell you that losing weight comes down to your MINDSET.
If you have started this journey more than once, you are probably sabotaging your own results right now and don’t even know it!
How is that? By starting off with failure in mind!

Sabotaging your results by starting out with failure in mind
Let’s be honest.
Have you heard yourself saying “if this doesn’t work, I’m just going to do this”, “I’m going to just try this for a little while”, “maybe this will work”, or “I know it’s going to be hard around this time”—- time hasn’t even happened yet.
Please listen or read this carefully.
Now is the time to be mindful and create awareness around what you’re saying to yourself as it will shed light on your beliefs.
When we talk about manifesting, it really comes down to your belief system.
If you believe you can do it, you will find a way to make it happen.
If you don’t believe you can do it, you will find a way to not make it happen.
If you do not trust yourself or do not believe that it is possible for you, will you really put your all into it?
I cannot stress the importance of awareness enough and being mindful of the language we use ‼️
This language tells us there’s more going on in this equation.
It’s not as simple as just losing weight or exercising.
There is a piece of you that does not believe that it is possible for you, does not trust yourself, or possibly even fears trying to lose weight because you don’t think you can sustain it, have never seen yourself healthier or lighter, think you’re going to be miserable, fears failure or possibly fears rejection.
If you believe that it isn’t possible, don’t trust yourself or have a fear around it, you may find yourself sabotaging your results.
What does self-sabotage look like 🚨
Now of course, this may look different for everyone but its usually a cycle.
Get started. Check to see what she’s doing and what’s working for her. Try what she’s doing. Develop unrealistic expectations that you can’t meet. Create a long laundry list of things you need to do in order to lose weight. Eat something “bad”. Quit. Feel like a failure. Beat yourself up. Wait a while. Get started again. Repeat the process. Shall I go on? 💁🏽♀️
Why does self-sabotage happen?
If you’re feeling like you’re alone or like you’re the only one this is happening to, try not to beat yourself up too hard. Self-sabotaging behavior is perfectly normal.
This is due to subconscious programming.
About 95% of what you do is based on your subconscious programming — meaning you have already done it before or have been exposed to it before. Your subconscious mind stores everything, all your past memories, experiences, thoughts, beliefs, fears and even HOW certain things made you feel.
So if you want to lose weight and keep it off, focus on your mindset first.
It’s not on finding the best diet or killing yourself in the gym. It’s on focusing on your mindset.
Your mindset is going to control everything you do.
Any time you set a goal and find yourself doing the opposite of what you said, stop.
Evaluate:
💡 What is really going on here?
💡 What are you trying to avoid?
💡 What do you fear is going to happen?
💡 What do you fear is not going to happen?
💡 What belief do you have that doesn’t support this goal?
💡 What are you actually saying to yourself?
Awareness is key!
Now that you’re shedding light on your beliefs, fears and habits, you can do something about them!
I mean that is, of course, if you finally want to put an end to it and start losing weight.
If you have tried every diet under the sun or nearly threw your back out after countless hours in the gym, now is the time to start focusing on your beliefs, thought processes, emotions, habits and fears.
So instead of starting out with failure in mind, start speaking life into yourself.
➡️ You ARE going to lose weight AND keep it off.
➡️ You ARE becoming healthier.
➡️ You ARE learning how to listen to your body.
➡️ You ARE trusting and believing in yourself and your ability to make the best decisions for you.
➡️ You ARE learning how to love and forgive yourself.

It’s time to shift your mindset!
Activities that can help you shift your mindset and put an end to self-sabotage:
✅ Journaling – helps to create awareness around your behavior, habits, emotions, beliefs and triggers. Now that you are aware, you can prepare.
✅ Meditating – allows you to quiet your mind, focus on being present in the moment and get back connected with your higher self, Source/Spirit/God, your core values, etc.
✅ Affirmations – helps you create new beliefs, counter those negative thoughts, set new habits and even provide motivation.
✅ Visualization – your mind does not know the difference between what’s real or fake. When you give your mind the command to do something, it checks to see how you’ve done it in the past to help you do it now—your subconscious programming. If you have never done it or have a negative feeling behind it, you’ll find yourself stalling, procrastinating, caught up in perfectionism or even feeling helpless. Visualizing is like giving your mind a roadmap for your future success so now it sees you accomplishing this goal, believes its possible for you and will do anything to help make it happen.
✅ Gratitude – sometimes when we are just getting started on this journey, we look at the long road ahead and get discouraged —- causing us to miss out on all of the progress we’re making. By expressing gratitude, you force yourself to be present in the moment and also it helps your mind understand what is important to you so it can go out and get more of it for you! Result: abundance. Your mind wants to experience pleasure and help you avoid pain. When it sees that the positive changes you have made are sparking more positive changes within you, it likes it. It sees that you like it and it will help you get more of it.
