So I decided to try something new: shaping my eyebrows with facial hair removal cream.
Disclaimer: before you apply any hair removal cream, always make sure you do a patch test 24-48 hours BEFORE applying hair removal cream to the entire section!
To shape my eyebrows, I followed the steps below:
1: created an outline of desired eyebrow using brow definer
2: applied thick layer of facial hair removal cream untidy hairs (above and below the outline)
3: let the removal cream sit for 3-4 minutes
4: tested small section to make sure removal cream was ready to be removed
5: used tweezers to pluck any stubborn hairs
1: filled in brows with the same brow definer
2: used spoolie brush to brush definer into brows for a more natural look
That’s it! I skipped concealer since my brows looked pretty clean without and overall, I loved the more natural look!

Chapped and dry lips are one of the most uncomfortable feelings in the world. It seems like no matter how much you lick your lips or how much lip balm you apply, nothing works! Maybe it’s because you aren’t properly exfoliating! Each week, take 5 minutes to pamper yourself and apply this dry lips treatment for softer, fuller and healthier lips!
Self care is so crucial for happiness, confidence and peace of mind.
I usually do a lighter workout on Sunday’s and do a full body at-home exfoliation covering face, body and even my lips.
My lips have always been on the drier side but with my recent lifestyle changes, they’ve been extremely dry lately.
I’ve realized that since I’ve decided to become more healthier, my lips suffered the most. A natural response for me was to lick my lips while exercising. I’d probably lick them a minimum of 8-10 times while exercising. Because my lips were dry and dehydrated, I either licked more or applied A LOT of lip products because I just didn’t feel it working.
I formed darker marks around the corners of my mouth and the bottom of my lip. It was either a mixture of dead skin or the discoloration from licking my lips excessively. Plus, the bitter Chicago air only made it worse.
Not only were my lips dry but they began to accumulate hardened dead skin, skin tried to peel and my lip glosses looked horrible. Thankfully, I learned about lip care and since I’ve been following this method, my lips have lightened and feel so much healthier.
Are you battling dry lips? Many people don’t know why it happens so I decided to list some of the most common reasons behind dry lips to help you identify and prevent them.
Most Popular Reasons for Dry Lips:
Exposure – the skin on the lips is thinner than the rest of the face. Dry winter air and sun exposure sucks the moisture out of the skin with the lips taking the most damage.
Dehydration – many people do not drink enough water or eat enough fruits and veggies which contain high water content.
Licking – licking lips is a natural reaction when the lips feel dry; however, the moisture from the saliva is only temporary which causes you to lick your lips more frequently — drawing out moisture.
Medications/illness – some illnesses cause lips to either dry or discolor as well as the medications used to treat certain illnesses.
Irritating foods – citrus and other acidic foods, salty foods and spicy foods are known to be very drying.
How does exfoliating help get rid of dry lips?
The skin normally “turns over” or sheds once every 28 days or so. This means, as the days go on, unless you are properly exfoliating, the dead skin sits on top; therefore, preventing or lessening the absorption of the moisturizers you apply.
If your lip balm doesn’t appear to be working or you still suffer with chapped or dry lips, you want to make sure you exfoliate. Remember to be gentle!
Do not over-exfoliate. Only exfoliate once per week and at night. By removing the top layer of skin, your lips become more sensitive. Let them heal while you sleep.
Steps to get rid of dry lips:
Step 1: pick your exfoliator.
You can either make a lip exfoliator or purchase a premade exfoliator. I make an exfoliator using one parts sugar to one parts extra virgin olive oil. You can use regular olive oil if you have it available. I’ve also heard of others substituting the sugar for salt; however, I hardly use sugar and this gives me a reason to use the big bag I purchased. Plus, sugar is a natural exfoliator.
Add the ingredients in a bowl and stir until you create a paste.
Optional: add 1/2 – 1 raw honey to the mix.
Step 2: rub the exfoliator in gentle circles (may also use soft-bristle toothbrush). You do not want to over-exfoliate or rub the lips raw. Exfoliate for no more than 1 minute.
Step 3: wipe off with warm water using a towel, warm water directly from the faucet or a damp paper towel. Do not rub the lips. Simply pat off the scrub.
Step 4: apply hydrating lip balm. Soon after you finish removing the exfoliator, apply your lip balm of choice to lock in moisture and prevent further damage.
Step 5: apply a BOMB lip gloss (optional for you but non-negotiable for me). In this pic, I’m wearing the new Crave Lip Gloss in Strawberry Glaze. the new lip gloss is scented, tinted, infused with Vitamin E (which is great for lips) and it’s very long-lasting without being sticky!
If you are repairing your dry lips, apply the hydrating lip balm liberally. You may need to apply several times a day so apply as needed. Make sure you apply before heading outside to prevent further damage.
My favorite treatments for dry lips and chapped lips:
After exfoliating, I like to use Beyond Color Lip Conditioner. It has retinol and collagen to help your lips feel smooth, plumper and decrease dryness. Because it contains retinol, I only use at night (when I exfoliate) or if my lips feel dry at night, I’ll also apply. You can also use the lip conditioner underneath your lipstick which I’d highly suggest if the formula is very drying or matte finish.
During the day, I use Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing & Repair Moisturizing LipTreatment Balm (this stuff is AMAZING). It only costs $2 but so worth it! It’s long lasting and contains Hydraboost Technology which mimics the skin’s natural defense to protect during the day and seal in water to prevent degression dehydration. It’s also suitable for sensitive skin — unscented and no flavor to irritate the skin. I use this every day and whenever I have the urge to lick.
Using the steps above, my lips are nice and smooth which makes my lipsticks and lip gloss look nearly perfect — no peeling skin, flaky, rough patches or uneven coverage!
I want you all to meet my one and only baby — Smoke! He’s about 15 months old now and look at the difference!
I’m a little embarrassed to admit this…
Everyone knows I’m crazy about Smoke (just look at my personal Facebook).
Yes, he’s responding LOL
When I got him, he was in a house with 17 dogs. My husband didn’t even know I was getting a dog. We said we’d discuss it. Then he said no…. and well, we know how the rest of it goes (I do not suggest this at home) 🤣🤣🤣
Because I kinda made the decision on my own, I couldn’t tell him this… He still doesn’t even know. My best friend and I went to check Smoke out.
He was about 7 weeks old. They told us he couldn’t touch the ground because Parvo was high in the area.
I picked him up and literally fell in love with him. Took him to Petco and spent about $200 because well, he needed it.
My husband came home when I had just parked the car in the garage.
He was so surprised to see Smoke.
I say surprised, he might say pissed. But hey, my story. I’ll tell it how I want it.
I guess I should’ve expected it with 17 dogs, right?
Now, of course, I couldn’t tell my husband. He didn’t even want a dog!
I hopped on my phone and looked for a flea treatment. Checked to see what was available at Petco. It was about 8:40 p.m. but I figured I’d push it 100 mph if I needed to get to the store in time before they closed. Learned something new: he was too young for most flea treatments! Apparently, puppies have to be a certain age/weight before they’re able to take most treatments.
I was so disappointed this wouldn’t be a “quick fix” so I headed down to the basement and figured I’d just give it a shot and hope for the best. I purchased a puppy shampoo while at Petco earlier so I decided to use it.
Fleas were in my hand 🤢🤢🤢
I was about to give him back. Like no, seriously… I did not sign up for this but then he was in my hands… so small… so cute… I could pick him up like a little baby.
What Did I Do to Get Rid of Fleas:
Somehow, through my nausea, I remembered that I had Skin So Soft Bath Oil. I actually keep this in the house. We had ants and spiders when we first moved in to our new home and I actually used it to create barrier for the cracks in the basement.
For my beauty uses: I put a few drops in my bath water and if my skin is still dry (winter usually), I apply a little after my bath. I also use it to remove my stubborn makeup such as eyeliner and mascara. For more hacks, hit this section of my blog.
*SSS bath oil is approved by the FDA/CDA only as a bath oil. Avon does not endorse its use for anything other than a bath oil.
After the shower, I rubbed Smoke down with the oil. More fleas fell off 🤢🤢🤢 It’s like they wouldn’t stop coming! I guess I should’ve been happy but just seeing them 🤢🤢🤢
Most home remedies call for 1 part bath oil to 5 parts water. I figured my hand measurement was about right seeing as though he was drenched in water and my skin was absorbing some of the oil (lazy girl method). To be safe, if you are going to try this, be sure to use the 1:5 ratio. My own laziness concerns me at times LOL
He scratched a little after the shower but nothing major. The next day or two, I watched him carefully. Nothing. I believe the initial itching was due to irritation from the actual bites or his skin being dry.
Finally, I take him to get his shots. The vet literally put her nose in his coat and said he smelled so good so she wanted to know what I used. Literally, she couldn’t stop sniffing him! I’ve never seen someone — especially a stranger put their actual nose on someone else’s dog and just leave it there!
It’s been over fourteen months since our flea dilemma and Smoke has YET to get a flea treatment.
Using the same stuff I use on my body and his coat is shiny, he smells good and flea free.
How I Prevent Fleas and Mosquitoes:
Prevention: each month, I give Smoke a bath using Burt’s Bees for Dogs Tearless Puppy Shampoo. While still wet, I spray him down with the bath oil spray — not to drench him in the oil but just a very light, even coating of the oil (think when you spritz your hair). Using either a grooming brush or hand glove, I brush him down to remove loose hair to help with shedding and work the oil down to his skin. I notice that his skin is nice and moisturized. He doesn’t scratch/itch often. Note: I let him air dry and while doing so, he licks himself either to dry off the moisture or it smells/tastes good to him — not really sure but he hasn’t gotten sick from licking at himself.
Mosquitoes: honestly, I had no idea that mosquitoes had it out for dogs until this summer! Smoke came in covered in mosquito bites and itching like crazy! He really doesn’t like being out in the sun but he’s not allowed to potty in the house so he has to go out. Right before, we head out, I spray him down evenly on his dry coat and then head out. Not a single bite since I’ve started doing this so I’m sure I’ll keep it up for next year. Note: I’ve also used the Skin So Soft Bug Guard Expedition (doesn’t need to be washed off) and that worked just as well for him. I do not apply it directly to his skin like the Skin So Soft Bath Oil but a few inches away and it is just as effective.

I won’t lie, I haven’t been feeling very eyeshadow-y lately. I know that’s not a word but I think you get the point. For the past few weeks, I’ve been really rocking the whole “no makeup” makeup look. Honestly, for most days, it’s all you really need: perfect your skin, fill those eyebrows in and pucker up baby!
Looking online, it seems many women struggle with leaving foundation on their clothing or even worse, someone else’s clothing! Like who wants to hug someone and walk off with a nice friendly reminder on their white shirt —eeewww!!! It’s embarrassing.
It seems this issue is really prevalent with darker complexions and us oily girls — the foundation just runs right off our faces!
So how do you stop it? How to get your foundation to lasts all day? Well, I’m glad you asked! Since I’ve changed my foundation routine, these four steps have saved my life! Well maybe not that dramatic but it’s made a major difference. I literally get over 11 hours of wear! I haven’t tested beyond that point but isn’t that like a standard day?
How to stop foundation from transferring:
Step 1: Primer – primer helps to fill in your pores, reduce shine, give an even canvass and creates a barrier between the skin and the foundation. I usually apply with my fingers just like I would a moisturizer.
Step 2: Foundation – the common go-to is liquid foundation. If you are usually oily, try an oil-free foundation instead. Oil-based foundations will only make the matter worse. Try applying with a foundation brush or beauty sponge for a truly flawless look.
Step 3: Loose Powder – loose powder helps absorb any excess oil so the foundation doesn’t run. I personally recommend opting for translucent powder as opposed to pigmented. If you are very oily, you still may experience some shine and need to “powder your nose.” Translucent powder easily tackles the shine and prevents the makeup from looking cakey if you apply too much. If you rub off the foundation, then opt for the pigmented powder but only apply in those needed areas. You do not need to go over the entire face again.
Step 4. Setting Spray – setting spray helps to keep everything in place. Think of it just like hair spray or better yet, let’s think of it like a sandwich. The primer is your first piece of bread, the foundation is the meat, the powder is the cheese and the setting spray is the second piece of bread. Of course, blush, highlighter, concealer and the other bells and whistles are like mayo, mustard, etc —condiments but let’s stick to the basics.
Tip: if you need to freshen up during the day, be sure to have a mattifying pressed powder so it’s not as messy as the loose powder. BEFORE applying the powder, take a napkin or tissue paper or blotting papers to carefully blot the excess oil. THEN apply the powder. If you apply the powder over the oil, you can create a paste and the foundation will look thicker.
If you find that you’re excessively oily, which is contributing to the foundation issue, make sure you are following a proper skin care regimen geared towards oily skin. Make sure that you are exfoliating at least 1-2 times per week and using an appropriate moisturizer. Yes, oily skin needs moisturizers as well. Not using a moisturizer actually causes your skin to produce more oil.

I’ve had a few people reach out to me and ask what should a newbie in the world of makeup get when starting out on this beautiful journey. As you know, I absolutely love makeup so I was all-too-willing to give my recommendations. I’ve created a list of just about everything new makeup users should have in their makeup bags to help enhance their natural beauty.
SPECIAL NOTE: I wanted my recommendations to be very affordable. Most of the products have a regular price listed next to them but they are usually on sale. Be sure to click the link to take you directly to the product page to see if the price has changed.
FIRST RULE: GREAT MAKEUP BEGINS WITH GREAT SKIN. NEVER SKIP YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE.
Prime – always prime your face. It helps create a barrier between your makeup and skin. The primer will help reduce shine, give foundation a longer lasting effect and may even help reduce blemishes and imperfections.

2. CONCEALER AND FOUNDATION
You can avoid a caked on makeup look when you pair these two items together. The True Color Ideal Nude Cream Concealer is full coverage but super blend-able. You can use it to cover dark under eye circles and even use as a pre-highlighter or highlighter! The Flawless Liquid Foundation is an oil-free full coverage foundation that’s lightweight and easy to build if you need more.

You don’t absolutely need to wear false lashes but if you’d like your lashes to be fuller and longer, you want this Wash-Off Waterproof Mascara. It does both. Paired with the SuperShock Gel Eye Liner Pencil and you’ve got a winner. The gel eye liner glides on smooth and is packed with tons of color.

6. BRUSHES AND TOOLS
In order to apply makeup and easily blend, you’ll need the right tools. The Pro Flawless Makeup Applicator helps blend foundations, blush, concealer and highlighter. Though it’s not as soft as a Beautyblender, it’s a great substitute. The problem with makeup sponges is it’s hard to clean the inside. Because they’re inexpensive, you can easily toss when they become dirty. Also, search online for the right makeup brushes to help blend eyeshadow (if worn.)
Blush helps add a healthy flush of color and highlighter gives a nice subtle glow. Pair these two in the summer and you have this beautiful sun-kissed glow! Cheek Magnets are available in both matte and shimmer so serve as dual-purpose blush and highlighter. The Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes are available in Pearly Glow and Coral Glow. They help transition any look for everyday to glam.
